KYKLOTHEA: Workshop on practical composting using school food waste to produce natural fertilizer

On April 3rd, a hands-on composting workshop was held at the school unit, in the terms of project Kyklothea, with the participation of students and educators.

The activity aimed to familiarize participants with the basic principles of the circular economy through the utilization of organic waste generated in everyday school operations. Specifically, the process of transforming food waste and plant materials from pruning into natural fertilizer (compost) was presented, highlighting the importance of reuse and waste reduction.

The workshop offered to participants the opportunity to observe and understand the stages of composting, as well as its benefits for the environment and sustainable development.

At the end of the activity, compost was distributed to students and educators, strengthening the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

The Kyklothea program aims to promote environmental awareness and encourage the active participation of the educational community in practices that support the sustainable management of natural resources.

The activity was implemented within the framework of the project “Implementation of Circular Economy Practices and Greenhouse Development at EEEEK Kallithea”, which was approved by Decision No. 315.3.4/2025 of the Board of Directors of the Green Fund and is carried out under the Funding Programme “NATURAL ENVIRONMENT & CLIMATE NEUTRALITY 2024”, Priority Axis 2 (PA.2) “INNOVATIVE ACTIONS WITH CITIZENS”.
