KYKLOTHEA: Visit of the Students of EEEEK Kallithea to Aristi Estate

On Thursday, 12 February 2026, students of the Gardening Department of EEEEK Kallithea visited Aristi Estate, where they participated in an experiential learning seminar focused on the winter vegetable garden and seasonal cultivation practices.

During the activity, the students were introduced to the vegetables that thrive in the winter months and actively engaged in planting, watering, and caring for the crops, learning basic principles of sustainable cultivation and the life cycle of vegetables. They also had the opportunity to plant their own vegetables and flowers. At the same time, they were introduced to the artichoke, as well as aromatic herbs such as oregano and lavender, gaining insight into their characteristics and uses.

As part of the visit, composting was also presented as a key practice of the circular economy. The students learned how organic waste can be transformed into natural fertilizer, understanding how bio-waste can be reused to enrich the soil of the school garden and greenhouse.

The visit continued with a guided tour of the estate and an introduction to the plants cultivated there, with emphasis on biodiversity and the importance of local food production. The educational experience concluded with creative activities, during which the students created bouquets using leafy greens, oregano, and lavender, strengthening teamwork, creativity, and their connection with nature. The visit also included the harvesting of vegetables, and each student received a biodegradable pot with lettuce as a keepsake, allowing the experience to continue at home.

The activity was carried out within the framework of the project “Implementation of Circular Economy and Creation of a Greenhouse at EEEEK Kallithea”, which was approved by Decision No. 315.3.4/2025 of the Board of Directors of the Green Fund. The project is implemented under the Funding Programme “NATURAL ENVIRONMENT & CLIMATE NEUTRALITY 2024”, Priority Axis 2 (PA.2) “INNOVATIVE ACTIONS WITH CITIZENS”.
